Meet Your Board Member……Kathy Burcher, Legislation Chair

Kathy Burcher is our state legislation chair. She will tell you that without question the best part about being the legislation chair for Virginia PTA is the opportunities the job provides. Whether it is being a part of panel discussions on Governor McDonnell's transition team as he began to prepare to serve our state, working with our partners in the Virginia Association of Superintendents, School Boards Association, Virginia Education Association or the Virginia Education Coalition, or serving on Board of Education Committees, being legislation chair has opened so many great opportunities to learn.

Kathy has been a member of the Virginia PTA Board of Managers since 2009 when she was elected as the Legislation Chair. Prior to that she served on the Virginia PTA Capitol Committee for two years monitoring activity in the General Assembly. Kathy has also been a local unit education chair, local unit president, County Council Legislation chair and is currently serving as President of the Henrico County Council of PTAs, a job she loves. She is also a PTA member at Rivers Edge Elementary, Holman Middle and Nuckols Farm Elementary, all in Henrico County.

Kathy, who has been married for almost 15 years to her husband Bryan (a wonderful PTA volunteer) lives in Richmond. Her two children are students at Rivers Edge Elementary. Jackson is in 5th grade and Riley is in 3rd grade.

Kathy is especially grateful for the wonderful friends her PTA volunteering has brought into her life. These are forever friends who share a common goal- to make ever child's potential a reality.
