Take Your Family to School Week
PTA’s Take Your Family to School Week is celebrated each February—during the week leading up to PTA Founders Day (February 17)—to pay tribute to PTA’s legacy of building family-school partnerships. This year, PTA will celebrate Take Your Family to School Week during February 13-19, 2011 with the purpose of expanding and enhancing family engagement in schools across the country.
Ideas may be:
Media Center Monday - Use this evening to promote the Media Center and Book Fair. Faculty can provide a list of books they'd like for parents to donate. In addition, the Media Center factuly can show parents what an A/R test looks like.
Teen Living Tuesday - Sure, our children take this class every year but do we, as parents know what our teens are learning? This evening is designed to give a high level overview of what each grade level is learning.
Workout Wednesday - Use this evening to promote physical exercise. Ask your Phys Ed. department to plan a program to include parents showing what exercises the children work on each week in P/E and how parents can foster better physical exercise at home.
Technology Thursday - Use this evening to promote the pros/cons on social networking and the Internet. From cyber-bullying, cell phones, Texting/Sexting, Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter as parents we need to be on top of what our children are being exposed to.
Fun Friday - Use this evening to bring the family together at school for a spaghetti dinner and provide fun activities that engage both the child AND parent.
Regardless of whatever form your week takes, as long as you are bringing parents and children together, it will be a success!
